My Yeti Friend

This fellow makes an appearance in Episode 2 of 'Me Good Me Bad'. Until then he's in search of someone who will provide quiet companionship and likes a hot cup of tea.

I know I look delicious on this pea-soup background, but please resist the growlings of your stomach long enough to become my friend! Then you will never want to persecute me. Perhaps you will join me in freeing my fellow veggie-heads from the evil pink diamond devils!

Christmas Stamp

My sister Mary and I got together to do some stamping the other night and I made this snowflake image. We used speedball speedy draw blocks to cut with, and had a bit of a hard time with the ink and figuring out how to get the consistency right. I think the uneven ink application makes a nice contrast with the tight carving of the snowflake lines though, and was happy with this one. The strange puckering of the ink seems to give it a frosty effect. Merry Christmas everybody!

Pizza Bill

This doll is inspired by my dad. When he was a young buck, he worked in a pizza parlor and drag-raced cars for fun. He also shot pool in the billiards halls with friends and became quite the pool shark. This little greaser dude wears a leather jacket that says 'Drive Hard' on the back. He has a built in wire armature to make him poseable. (I made him as a gift for my friend).

Lizette Greco

Lizette Greco is a toy artist who works with her husband making one of a kind dolls based on her childrens' drawings. I especially get a kick out of the 'Road Kill' one, which has removeable gore.

Whose been funky?

I just finished this guy last night. . . This Veggie Head doll represents 'long term funk'. Sometimes it makes us snap at others, sometimes it makes us feel like we are surrounded by clouds and all we want to do is stomp around wearing stiff boots. Sometimes it makes us want to ignore everyone, even just go to bed and cry.


About the materials, The fabric on the back of the cape looks like the electricity in the air during a lightning storm. The red silk lining comes from the inside of my favorite peacoat which is falling apart, and the body is cashmere. Ooh la la! (What can I say, the store ran out of grey felt.) I couldn't break down and buy a half yard of real leather for his itty bitty boots which would have been just my cup of tea had they been made of alligator skin... it worked out better that way though because they ended up a thin vinyl which wasn't too hard to push through with a needle.

Eskimo Doll

I just turned 30 and as a birthday gift my friend Roxy Asami made me this cutest-of-all Eskimo Doll! I love it. Thank you Roxy! I love the furry odd stuff around his face. I couldn't tell what it was made of and asked the artiste herself. She said she didn't have fur on hand so she made it out of cording! (You know, the stuff that goes around the side of the couch to make that tubey shape?
So creative!

I think I will name him Simon. He's a top rated ice fisherman who lives in an igloo with his pet penguin. He enjoys reading the poetry of Keates and enjoys drawing maps in his spare time when not eating fish jerkey to maintain his body warmth.

Skeeming and Kinniving with Ziggity Zaggity

I'm working on a toy right now who wears some Missoni-inspired fabric.



I don't want to give away the toy before he's made, but I thought you would enjoy a little taste from Missoni's Spring line for women. They are best known for their ziggy zaggy prints.

The reason I like this type of fabric so much is because it has a perfect balance of ridiculous and classy at the same time, which is the type of girl I want to be. Really silly but never out of line. But if you look at it for long enough you might begin to say. . . there's something not quite right with this picture. Am I the only one seeing things this way? Okay fine I'll just keep quiet and smile about it then. No I won't! This is weird! No, it's not, it's awesome.

(As you can see I've thought way too hard about these prints. Maybe there is a fabric that inspires you? I know some people have a similar dedication to courderoy. . .

Jim Torok

Here's an artist whose work I 've been attracted to ever since seeing a little animation he did at The Drawing Center. In addition to making cartoons, he also makes intense miniature oil portraits.

Mall Santa

I'm breaking my rule to never post pictures of myself. . . this was just too joyous a moment not to share! I had to stop by the Manhattan Mall's Santa booth on my way home from work to give myself a dose of holiday cheer. It worked! Thanks Santa! Too bad he was being heckled by some rude teens while we were sharing our special time together.

Taskmaster Devil Doll

Here's another doll I made- this guy is greedy for diamonds and lives in the underground chambers on the island of adolescence and devils. He cracks the whip at the poor little veggie heads and forces them to mine for gems, keeping their entire race in slavery! Features include buddah belly and funny floppy nose. . .

Veggie Head Doll

Hip Hip Hooray! Here's a squishy incarnation of a veggie head I whipped up yesterday. Thanks to the fabric district for providing material and inspiration for his awesome shaggy mop! He also has two cute pom poms for buttons and felt eyes. I love these kinds of projects that I can work on while watching TV with my husband until 2 am.

Oh my gosh! This snail dispenser from fredflare.com is so cute it deserves a post of it's own! I would just love to have this little guy chilling on my desk, wouldn't you? Reminding me to take things slow and enjoy life's simple pleasures. Costs $20

Rubber Furniture

Wouldn't you love to have that big blue couch in your backyard? This remarkable furniture is made from antiques and covered with a soft rubber making them suitable for indoor or outdoor use! It's so Alice and Wonderland! Produced in Holland by Jasper Van Grotel. The couch costs about $6,500. I love the bright colors! Good thing I can't afford it or I would just have to redecorate the living room. I think these items would mix and match really well with modern art pieces. Maybe some Kenneth Noland target paintings?
