The Lost District

Here's a picture I drew today. It's inspired by my childhood growing up in a wooded area of Connecticut known as 'The Lost District'. The area was once a settlement called 'Dantown' which was abandoned and flooded to create a reservoir. That area was very mysterious and wonderful to me. The forests were criss-crossed with low brick walls built by the early inhabitants trying to clear their fields. The fields are now gone, all filled in with trees, and the walls are home to the mice and chipmunks. Ferns and moss fill the misty moisty boggy woods. The insects are kind and friendly and I was never even afraid of the snakes.

This is a 1915 map of the area. The big water body is Laurel Reservoir. The little lake at the top I added and also showed where my old house is.
